Shahrukh has a sister named Shehnaz, who is lovingly known asLalarukh. He attended St. Columba's School where he was excelled in sports, drama and academics. He won the Sword of Honour, an annual award bequeathed to the student who embodies the spirit of the school. He later attended the Hansraj College(1985-1988) to earn an Honors degree in Economics. After this, he studied for a Masters Degree in Mass Communications at Jamia Millia Islamia University.

After the death of his parents, Shahrukh moved from Gurgaon to Mumbai in 1991. He then married Gauri Khan in a Hindu wedding ceremony. They have two children, son Aryan (born in 1997) and daughter Suhana (born in 2000).

Shahrukh's life-size wax statue is kept in the famous Madame Tussauds wax museum, London. It was made public on April 2007. Shahrukh has been chosen for the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of the Arts and Literature) award of the French government for his "exceptional career".

Career History:

Shahrukh Khan started his career as an actor with Fauji(1988), a television serial in which gave him instant success. After a couple of TV serials he joined the big league and gave a smashing hit'Deewana'(1992) with the late Divya Bharati. After that he gave a series of hit films both as a hero and a villain.

In 1993 he shot to stardom with two successive villain roles as a paranoid lover in 'Baazigar' and 'Darr'. In 1995, he got another hit'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' which elevated him as one of the most successful actor in Hindi cinema. After DDLJ he got a series of hit movieswhich include Pardes (1997), Yes Boss(1997), Dil To Pagal Hai(1997), Dilse(1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai(1998), Hey Ram (2000), Josh (2000),Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega(2000), Mohabbatein (2000) etc.

Shahrukh as one of the ascendants to the Magadha throne in Santosh Sivan's 'Ashoka'(2001) gave a wonderful performance as a romantic, ruthless warrior. Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' was another movie in the same year in which he was unable to take full advantage of the character. In 2002, he excelled in 'Devdas', which was India's official entry to the 2002 Oscars.

Shahrukh is known as a convincing screen lover, and seems to spark equally good performances from his female co-stars, he has good screen chemistry with almost all his heroines. He has been most successful pairing with Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta, in hits such as DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chalte Chalte(2003) and Kal Ho Naa Ho(2003). He followed his success in 2004, with memorable performances in'Veer-Zaara', 'Swades'Veer-Zaara is an epic tale of love between an Indian man and a Pakistani woman, in which he enacted the umpteenth role as the forlorn lover with ease. Swades is a film dealing with a social cause - a foreign returned Indian man's journey through the rural heart of his home land and he gave a genuine performance in this movie.

A noted British filmmaker, Nasreen Munni has produced a two-part documentary on Shahrukh, "The Inner and Outer World of Shahrukh Khan".

In 2005 he once again teamed up with Karan Johar for the multi starrer'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'(2006), which was a hit at the box office. The same year he did the title role in a remake of the 1978 hit film 'Don'.

The year 2007 was one of his best years professionally, as he hit the jackpot with 'Chak De India' which fetched him rave reviews for his performance as a hockey coach to Indian Hockey Women's Team, and Farah Khan's 'Om Shanti Om' which he produced and acted became the highest grosser in India and the overseas market that year.

In his personal life he is very simple and frank. He strongly believes in Muslim-Hindu peace, as do many other Bollywood actors. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005. SRK has a superb drive to top in anything he does and says he is never satisfied with whatever achievements he has made. He is too full of zest to be defeated and live quietly. Even if he ceases to be a super star, this talented personality is sure to explore other avenues to succeed. He will continue to be there on the top.

Shahrukh Khan As Producer:

han has also produced some of the films he has starred in, but has had mixed success as both the producer and the star of his films. He set up a production company called Dreamz Unlimited withJuhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza in 1999. The first two of the films he produced and starred in: Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani(2000) and Asoka(2001)which unfortunately both box office failures. His third film, as a producer and star,Chalte Chalte(2003), was the first box office hit from his production house. In 2004 he set up another production company called Red Chillies Entertainmentand produced and starred in Main Hoon Na, which was another hit at the box office. In 2005 he produced and starred in the fantasy film Paheli, which was a box office failure. It was India's selection for the Academy Awards(foreign films category) but did not win. That same year he also co-produced the supernatural horror film Kaal with Karan Johar and performed an item number for the film with Malaika Arora Khan. Kaal was moderately successful at the box office. The forthcoming film produced by his company Red Chillies Entertainment is Om Shanti Om, which he will also star in.
